The Marshall Centre for Infectious Disease Research and PolyU Research Institute held its inauguration ceremony on March 21.

The Centre will focus on advancing research in bacterial infection therapeutics, targeting Helicobacter pylori – the world’s most prevalent chronic infection. Building upon Professor Marshall’s foundational research, it aims to establish an AI-driven electronic biobank and develop diagnostic tools for gastrointestinal cancers caused by H. pylori, thereby accelerating scientific progress and precision diagnostics. Additionally, the Centre will pioneer novel antimicrobial therapies to address the urgent need for new antibiotics driven by rising drug resistance. Professor Marshall emphasized that the Centre will play a pivotal role in developing innovative solutions and fostering collaborations across related fields.
